Scientific Director — Professor O.S. Sychov

Department of Heart Arrhythmia
The department was founded in 1980.
The main directions of research are:
- study of electrophysiological properties of heart conduction system in patients with supraventricular and ventricular tachyarrhythmias;
- study of characteristic features of the autonomic nervous system supply of the heart atria and ventricles;
- prospective studies of patients with coronary disease, ventricular arrhythmias, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter, prognosis and methods of their prevention;
- investigation of the role of duration of QT interval;
- studies of pathophysiological aspects of arrhythmogenesis on the base of analysis of structural and functional properties of myocardium and cell membrane state;
- studies of the effects of new cardiovascular drugs on the course of heart rhythm abnormalities and regulatory function of the autonomic nervous system.
The department has 40 beds, the laboratory of invasive electrophysiological investigations, noninvasive electro-physiology, echocardiography, Holter ECG-monitoring, blood pressure monitoring, loading tests.
In addition to the common clinical methods and techniques at the department there are used endocavitary and transesopageal electrocardiostimulation, ultrasound diagnosis, autonomic testing, and others.
Every year about 1000 patients get professional medical care at the department.
14 scientists work at the department among them 1 professor and 7 candidates of medicine.
During the last decade 587 scientific works were published, including 261 abroad, 12 guidelines, 12 monographs and textbooks. 6 doctorate's and 16 candidate's theses in medicine were defended.
Employees of the department are actively involved in the activity of the Work Group on Cardiac Arrhythmias of the Association of cardiologists of Ukraine.
