Department of Population Research
The department was founded in 1976.
The main directions of research are:
- development of epidemiological approaches to the study of etiology and pathogenesis of the main cardiovascular diseases, in particular ischemic heart disease;
- study of the spread of risk factors for the main chronic non-infectious diseases in broad age- and sex-related ranges and regularities in forming the key epidemiologic indices;
- examination of the dynamics in epidemiologic situation as regards arterial hypertension in urban and rural population within the framework of the Program of prophylaxis and treatment of arterial hypertension in Ukraine approved by the Presidential Decree;
- development of scientifically substantiated principles for organizing prophylaxis programs to treat cardiovascular diseases.
On this base there wire created the statistical models of probability dependence of the development of ischemic heart disease relating to the presence, intensity, frequency and duration of risk impact.
Prospective studies of the earlier checked groups of patients are carried out to determine the importance of identified risk factors along with the development of ischemic heart disease prevention strategy and development of the prediction model for estimating risk of the premature death from ischemic heart disease.
Strategy and principles of organization of the prophylactic measures at populational, family and individual levels are developed and improved. Medical and social estimates of the efficacy of implemented prophylactic measures are developed.
Based on our own research and international experience, methodological recommendations are issued and information systems are created dealing with prophylactic cardiology. Training of medical personnel is conducted by organizing lectures and seminars devoted to some modern issues in prophylactic cardiology. Assistance is given to medical institutions in Ukraine to conduct epidemiological and prophylaxis research within the framework of their daily R&D activity and prophylactic work.
The department is the base organization for carrying out the WHO CINDI Program (Countrywide Integrated Noncommunicable Diseases Prevention) on the prevention of main chronic Noncommunicable diseases in Ukraine.
The standard research enables us to compare the obtained results with the data of similar research carried out in other countries.
The department has modern equipment.
During the last decade 194 scientific works were published, including 121 abroad, and 5 guidelines.
