Scientific Director – Professor M.I. Lutai

Department of Atherosclerosis and Chronic Coronary Disease with the Laboratory of Hemostasiology
The department was founded in 1976.
The main direction of research is development of new approaches to diagnosis and secondary prophylaxis of ischemic heart disease.
The main direction of scientific research is focused on examination of peculiarities in development and progress of atherosclerotic impairment to coronary path jn relation to the indices of immune inflammation, endothelial and hemorheological factors at different stages of development and destabilization of the coronary atherosclerosis plaque; the role of non lipid factors in elevation of blood plasma atherogenicity; the possibilities of regeneration of endothelial function, atherosclerotic plaque stabilization, regression of the coronary atherosclerosis under prolonged treatment of patients with coronary disease, new methods of prevention and treatment of coronary arteries restenosis.
Modern diagnostic methods are used at the department, such as coronaroventriculography, radionuclide ventriculography, echocardiography, stress echocardiography with dobutamine, transesophageal volume (3 - 4D) reconstruction of the heart cavities; Holter ECG-monitoring, paired pharmacodynamic tests; ergometric tests, hyperventilation cold stress test with single submaximal exercise.
The department serves as a clinical base for the approbation of new pharmacological preparations and participates in international multicentre clinical research.
In the last 10 years 300 scientific works were published, including 70 abroad, 5 monographs and 13 guidelines, 12 patents of invention obtained, 3 doctor’s and 10 candidate’s degrees in medicine have been awarded to the scientists of the department.
