Department of Hypertension
The department was founded in 1962.
The main direction of research is the study of pathogenesis of arterial hypertension, development of optimum approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with hypertension based on the estimation of individual characteristics in the course of the disease.
The researches thoroughly study: data of 24-hour monitoring of arterial pressure rhythm and its dynamic under physical or emotional stress; neurohumoral factors of blood pressure regulation; processes of development and regression of the left ventricular hypertrophy of myocardium; systolic and diastolic functions of myocardium; homeostasis of calcium, metabolism of lipids and carbohydrates; and the influence of antihypertensive treatment on the above mentioned factors.
Modern instrumental, radioisotopic and biochemical methods of investigation are used (e.g., Doppler echocardiography, 24-hour monitoring of arterial pressure, veloergometry, ECG, renoscintigraphy, measurement of plasma concentrations of hormones and vasoactive substances, etc.). Scientists of the department in collaboration with the research company “Rebus” have developed automatic portable meter of arterial pressure. The quality and measurement characteristics of the meter are not inferior to the best foreign analogues. The device for the 24-hour measurement of arterial pressure is being designed.
Together with researchers of the Departments of Symptomatic Arterial Hypertension and the Department of Population Research there was developed the National Programme for Prophylaxis and Treatment of Hypertension in Ukraine.
The scientists of the department have published 483 scientific works, including 183 abroad, 3 monographs and 17 guidelines during the last decade.
