The Department of Cardiac Anomalies and the Laboratory of Functional Diagnostics
The department was founded in 1991. The main directions of research are:
- elaboration of new methodological approaches to diagnosis of structural and functional heart alterations in patients with acquired cardiac anomalies;
- investigation of the potential benefits of correction methods for the management of cardiac rhythm abnormalities and treatment of heart failure in these patients.
- investigation of the efficiency of medicament therapy methods for cardio-vascular diseases;
- development of differential approaches to treatment based on the examination of clinical, hemodynamic, electrophysiological, biochemical and immunological parameters of patient's condition;
- investigation of the influence of medicament thera¬py on remodeling processes in patients with cardiovascular diseases;
- development of differential approaches to the diagnostics of structural and functional alterations of the heart, therapy in cardiac failure in patients with acquired heart diseases;
- study of the efficiency of anti-inflammatory and immuno-modulating therapy in patients with acute and chronic inflammation processes in the heart.
With the aid of modern ultrasonic and instrumental research techniques (echocardiography, 24-hour monitoring of BP and ECG, immunological and modern biochemical essays) the following R&D topics are being explored at the department:
- regularities and peculiarities of heart failure in mitral valve dysfunction in ischemic disease and rheumatic patients;
- monitoring of side-effects of anti-rheumatic drugs (nonselective and selective inhibitors of cydooxygenase (COX-2): comparative in-patient clinical and pharmacological examination Pharmacotherapy department is the basis for the State Pharmacological Center of the Health Ministry of Ukraine to probate new medicines to treat patients with cardiovascular and rheumatoid diseases.
Complex of criteria for the evaluation of inflammatory activity in patients with myocarditis and rheumatic heart disease has been improved and immunomodulating effects of a number of antibiotics, immunomodulators and non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs have been studied. Indications for their clinical application have been designed.
The researchers of the department have published 385 scientific works, including 76 abroad, 5 guidelines, 3 textbooks and also received 6 patents of Ukraine for inventions.
